85001 - ECHO/PULSE - Recommended upgrade of Livescribe Desktop version 1.7 (or older)

What is the process to upgrade Livescribe Desktop version 1.7 (or older) and obtain the latest software and firmware features?

We recommend that you upgrade Livescribe Desktop versions 1.7 or older as we will be ending support for those versions of Livescribe Desktop soon.

To check your version access "Help > About…" (Windows) / "Livescribe Desktop > About Livescribe Desktop" (Mac).

To upgrade:

Windows Users

IMPORTANT - In order to properly migrate your Livescribe Desktop data to a new improved data format and to make sure your smartpen continues to get recognized please follow the steps below closely.

  1. Start Livescribe Desktop.
  2. Dock your smartpen to the USB charging cable to transfer any new data from the smartpen.
  3. Disconnect your smartpen from the USB charging cable.
  4. Check for updates by going to "Help > Check for Updates".  NOTE: If you have a version of Livescribe Desktop that is older than 1.7 you will have several updates to accept.  
  5. Accept the update when prompted.  If you get an error trying to update to 1.7 because you are behind a proxy server (e.g. in a school or work environment) you can download and install version 1.7 from www.livescribe.com/downloads/support/LivescribeDesktop_Install_Win_v1.7.zip
  6. When you reach Livescribe Desktop version 1.7 you will be prompted to update to version 2.1.1 which will include a data migration.  Accept the update.  If you are behind a proxy server you can download and install version 2.1.1 from www.livescribe.com/downloads/support/LDWin_211_38733.zip
  7. After your data is migrated, go to "Help > Check for Updates" once more.
  8. When prompted to upgrade to the latest version of Livescribe Desktop accept the update.  If you are behind a proxy server you can download the latest version, which is Echo Desktop, from www.livescribe.com/install.
  9. Once the upgrade is finished Livescribe Desktop (or Echo Desktop) will open.  When prompted for a "Livescribe Smartpen Update", accept the update by clicking the Download and Install button.  If you are behind a proxy server you can download the latest smartpen firmware update utility from 29000 - Manual Windows smartpen firmware update utility (for Livescribe Desktop) or 29005 - ECHO/PULSE - ECHO DESKTOP USERS - Manual Windows smartpen firmware update utility (for Echo Desktop).

Mac Users

  1. Start Livescribe Desktop.
  2. Dock your smartpen to the USB charging cable to transfer any new data from the smartpen.
  3. Disconnect your smartpen from the USB charging cable.
  4. Check for updates by going to "Livescribe Desktop > Check for Updates".  You will be prompted to update to the latest version of Livescribe Desktop. Accept the update.  If you are behind a proxy server (e.g. in a school or work environment) and get an error updating you can install the latest version, which is Echo Desktop, from www.livescribe.com/install.
  5. Connect your smartpen to the USB charging cable.
  6. At the "Required Firmware Upgrade" click the Upgrade button.  If you are behind a proxy server you can download the latest smartpen firmware update utility from 29100 - Manual Mac smartpen firmware update (for Livescribe Desktop) or 29105 - ECHO/PULSE - ECHO DESKTOP USERS - Manual Mac smartpen firmware update utility (for Echo Desktop).
