85119 - ECHO/PULSE - Korean, Japanese or Chinese Microsoft Office 2007 installed. Running Livescribe Desktop - “com.Livescribe.Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close (XP)” OR “com.Livescribe.Desktop has stopped working (7 & V

I have a Korean, Japanese or Chinese version of Microsoft Office 2007 and when I try to run Livescribe Desktop I get an error message:  com.Livescribe.Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close (XP) OR com.Livescribe.Desktop has stopped working (7 & Vista).

If you installed Windows Livescribe Desktop, tried to run the software, and got an error message…

"com.Livescribe.Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." (XP)

OR

"com.Livescribe.Desktop has stopped working." (7 & Vista).

…this issue may be specific to installing a localized Korean, Japanese or Chinese version of Microsoft Office 2007. This can also occur if you have installed "Microsoft Office 2007 IME" on your system.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Click on your Windows "Start" button.
  2. Select "Control Panel".
  3. Windows 7 & Vista - In "Control Panel Home" view under "Clock, Language, and Region" select "Change keyboards or other input methods". In "Category / Classic View" select "Region and Language" (7) / "Regional and Language Options" (Vista). Windows XP - In "Category View" select "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options." and then "Regional and Language Options". In "Classic View" select "Regional and Language Options".
  4. Windows 7 & Vista - Select the "Keyboards and Languages" tab.  Windows XP - Select the "Languages" tab.
  5. Windows 7 & Vista - Click the "Change keyboards…" button. Windows XP - Click the "Details…" button.
  6. From the "Installed services" window select "Microsoft Office 2007 IME" and click the "Remove" button (this will not affect your system as the default "Microsoft IME" will still be installed).
  7. Click the "OK" button.
  8. Start Livescribe Desktop.

NOTE: If the "Remove" button in step 6 is not active you will first need to install "Microsoft IME" before you can remove "Microsoft Office 2007 IME".  To do so:

  1. Click the "Add…" button.
  2. Click the "+" symbol next to your language ("Korean (Korea)" or "Japanese (Japan)").
  3. Click the "+" symbol next to "Keyboard".
  4. Select "Microsoft IME".
  5. Click the "OK" button.
  6. From the "Installed services" window select "Microsoft Office 2007 IME" and click the "Remove" button.

You should no longer get an error message trying to run the software. If you are still having an issue with the software closing please reference 85113 - “Critical error - Livescribe Desktop has encountered a critical error and must shut down.” OR “com.Livescribe.Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close.”
