LIVESCRIBE 3 - Paper recording controls, not playback controls

Why do the "pause" and "stop" paper controls work when I'm recording but not while I'm playing a pencast in the Livescribe+ app?

 

Currently the "pause" and "stop" paper controls at the bottom of the notebook pages only work when recording a pencast in the Livescribe+ app using your Livescribe 3 smartpen.  Using these controls while playing a pencast in the Livescribe+ app is not supported but is a feature request that we have received.
