83252 - LIVESCRIBE+ - Recording, pausing, stopping, and playing audio (1)

How do I record and access audio using the Livescribe 3 smartpen?

Unlike previous Livescribe smartpen versions, there is not a microphone inside the Livescribe 3 smartpen and recordings are not stored on the smartpen itself (although the hand written notes are stored on the smartpen).

Instead, the free Livescribe+ app records the audio sessions using the built-in mic on your compatible mobile iOS 7 (or later) or Android 4.4.2 (or later) devices (83002 - LIVESCRIBE+ - System requirements of Livescribe 3 smartpen and Livescribe+). These pencasts sessions are stored on the iOS/Android device and are accessible through the Livescribe+ app.

For details on how phone calls and auto-screen locks can affect recordings, please see 83260 - LIVESCRIBE+ - Phone calls and recording with Livescribe+.

To create pencasts, make sure your smartpen is on and paired to Livescribe+ (84100 - LIVESCRIBE+ - Pairing Livescribe 3 for first time to an iOS 7 (or later) device or 85100 - LIVESCRIBE+ - Pairing Livescribe 3 for first time to an Android KitKat 4.4.2 (or later) device), and that Livescribe+ is running on your smartphone or tablet.
