88200 - LIVESCRIBE+ - “Unable to Read File” message when importing Livescribe PDF into Livescribe+

Why am I getting the message "Unable to Read File" when I try to import a Livescribe PDF into Livescribe+?

If you get the message "Unable to Read File" when trying to import a Livescribe PDF into Livescribe+, there could be two reasons for this message.

Importing Non-pencast Page(s) 

Livescribe+ will not import non-pencast notes (notes that do not contain audio).  Only pencasts can be imported.  If you try to import multiple note pages and some of those pages are notes only, you will see the message:

"Unable to Read File - Livescribe+ opens only PDFs that contain pencasts."

Importing from iOS Mail

If you use Exchange Server to process your emails, the PDF content may need to download completely first to your iOS Mail before you try to use the "Open in Livescribe+" option.  Otherwise you could get the Livescribe+ "Unable to Read File" message.  

To download the file: 

  1. Open Mail.
  2. Select the email that contains the Livescribe PDF.
  3. Tap to "Download the File".
  4. IMPORTANT: Scroll to the bottom of the email and tap "Download full message" if it appears.
  5. Tap and hold on the PDF icon and select "Open in Livescribe+".
