88152 - LIVESCRIBE+ - Livescribe 3 firmware update failing while Apple Watch connected to iOS device

Why can't I get the firmware on my Livescribe 3 smartpen to finish updating when my Apple Watch is also connected to my iOS device?

If you are trying to update your Livescribe 3 firmware using Livescribe+ while your Apple Watch is connected to your iOS device, the update might fail.  This is because the Apple Watch also uses Bluetooth LE and can sometimes interrupt the update of your Livescribe 3 smartpen firmware while the Watch is transmitting.  The work-around for this is to turn the Watch's Airplane mode on.

To do so:

Via Glances

  1. Raise your hand to light up the gadget's screen.
  2. Swipe Up to open the watchOS Glances menu.
  3. Swipe Left or Right until you reach the Settings glance.
  4. Tap the Airplane Mode Button. Activation is confirmed by the change of status at the top of the screen - "Connected" becomes "Disconnected".
  5. Repeat the steps presented above to return to normal connectivity mode.

Using Settings App

  1. Flick your wrist to wake up the Watch and use Hey Siri to open Settings OR press the Digital Crown and tap Settings on the device's home screen.
  2. Tap the Airplane Mode icon. Activation is confirmed by a yellow airplane icon displayed at the top of the screen.
  3. Repeat the steps presented above to return to normal connectivity mode.
