80800 - ECHO- Updating smartpen firmware using Echo Desktop

How do I update my smartpen firmware using Echo or Livescribe Desktop?

NOTE:  Users of virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, etc.) should do this update from a standard Windows PC or Intel based Mac to prevent problems with the loading of the new firmware and applications to the smartpen.

To update your smartpen with the latest firmware, please open Echo/Livescribe Desktop and dock your smartpen to the charging cable.  We recommend that you plug your cable into a USB port directly on your computer as opposed to a USB Hub or USB monitor port.

If not already prompted for an update:

Windows

Users of Windows Echo/Livescribe Desktop can select "Help > Check for Updates" and update the smartpen firmware and desktop software.  The firmware update can take approximately 10 minutes.

NOTE: If you haven't installed Echo/Livescribe Desktop but need to update the smartpen firmware OR if you cannot update the firmware due to a slow internet connection, a network proxy server, or some other reason, please reference 29000 - Manual Windows smartpen firmware update utility).

Mac

Users of Mac Echo/Livescribe Desktop can select "Echo/Livescribe Desktop > Check for Updates" and update the smartpen firmware and desktop software.  The firmware update can take approximately 10 minutes.

NOTE: If you haven't installed Echo/Livescribe Desktop but need to update the smartpen firmware OR if you cannot update the firmware due to a slow internet connection, a network proxy server, or some other reason, please reference 29100 - Manual Mac smartpen firmware update utility).
