Reasons for archiving notebooks

Why should I archive a notebook?

When you have finished using a Livescribe dot paper product, you should archive it.  Depending on the type of smartpen you have, archiving will do the following:

LIVESCRIBE 3 Smartpens:

  • Enable you to use another Livescribe dot paper product that has the same dot pattern as the one you archived.
  • Leave the notes on the smartpen so that pairing your Livescribe 3 smartpen to a new iOS 7 device running Livescribe+ will allow you to transfer the active notebook and archived notebook notes to that device.
  • When using your smartpen to tap on the ink in an archived notebook, you will still "jump to" that page in the Livescribe+ archived notebook.

For steps on archiving from the Livescribe 3 smartpen, please see 83270 - LIVESCRIBE+ - Archiving Livescribe 3 notebooks..

WIFI Smartpens:

  • Free up storage space on your smartpen
  • Enable you to use another Livescribe dot paper product that has the same dot pattern as the one you archived.
  • Move your notes and audio for a Livescribe dot paper product into an Archived Evernote notebooks folder. This distinguishes Livescribe dot paper products you are currently using from those you have archived. Your notes and audio remain interactive, just like non-archived Livescribe dot paper products.
  • Delete your notes (ink data) and audio from your smartpen. Because of this, your smartpen will no longer interact with the physical Livescribe dot paper product that you archived. That is, when you tap the notes in your archived physical notebook, they will not play back any audio.

ECHO/PULSE Smartpens:

  • Free up storage space on your smartpen
  • Enable you to use another Livescribe dot paper product that has the same dot pattern as the one you archived.
  • Move your notes and audio for a Livescribe dot paper product into an Archived notebooks section in the left side of Echo or Livescribe Desktop. This distinguishes Livescribe dot paper products you are currently using from those you have archived. Your notes and audio remain interactive, just like non-archived Livescribe dot paper products.
